May 26 Rest Day

Can't remember the last time I slept until 11:00. We were exhausted. I know the riders welcomed a break from riding in the heat. We got up and wandered down into the village below the castle that we're staying in. We must have arrived at the siesta time, because everything was closed. We found one cafe opened and got some gelato then walked back up to the castle. It's an amazing building and we had a room on the top floor, incredible view.

A room with a view, the highest in the city.

We're only about 25K from the east coast, so we picked up some food and drove to the beach. Nice and restful, except for the guys trying to sell us stuff, binoculars, beads, sunglasses, watches and lots of other crap that we didn't want.

We found a quiet beach on the rest day

After a short walk and nap on the beach we drove around the city, Pescara. The teams are scattered all around here and we noticed several team busses. We stopped in a mall just to look around and explore. Typical stuff, stores and a movie theater, etc. That pretty much killed our short rest day so we drove back to the castle. We had dinner in the castle, really, how many times can you do that? Great pasta and wine, no surprise.
